Football Ramble’s 3-part series, 'Inside the Qatar World Cup’ won bronze at this year’s Sports Journalism Awards for BEST AUDIO DOCUMENTARY! Led by esteemed host Kate Mason the series shows the stark, often harrowing cultural realities of the tournament through immersive audio, launched in the run up to what was a historical sporting event.
12 years after Qatar was controversially chosen to host, the series gives exclusive insight from the streets of the cities, speaking to the people who live there and the people who are building the World Cup from the ground up. Covering the important questions surrounding the LGBTQ+ community, women’s football in Qatar, immigration, and the migrant labour involved in building the stadiums; ‘Inside the Qatar World Cup’ insists every voice is heard. The series concludes by pondering Qatar’s future; leaving an ethical consideration to a country now being left behind by a worldwide audience, having seemingly split Qatari society in two.
The series received high praise from listeners, to football lovers, to curious minds alike; providing a brave insight into a country marred by controversy.
A huge congratulations to our very own Finn Ranson and Kate Mason for their hard work, as well as Tom Whalley for his incredible sound design. The Ramble team cannot wait to share some new documentary content very soon!
