Everyone at Stakhanov is adhering to advice regarding social distancing by remotely recording all of our shows, using microphones at home. Despite these testing times, our podcasts are all being released as usual, meaning we’ve still got some brilliant content for you this week.
On Monday, Football Ramble Daily considered ways in which the remaining unplayed football season might be resolved. The views of Kenny Dalglish and Scott Brown were up for discussion, and we considered what’s best for clubs like Liverpool and Leeds who look set to be disappointed after an excellent season. Luke also raised concern for small clubs at the grassroots level, who may struggle to survive in the current climate if fixtures continue to be cancelled.
For a time without football, there was still tonnes to talk about in this episode, including Frank Lampard being so fit he broke a treadmill, Jim battling with the bleep test and a round of Luke’s Game. Get in touch with the boys at show@footballrambledaily.com, with anything football related or otherwise, we’d love to hear from you. What are you doing to entertain yourself without the football? Jim’s even offered to start giving out love advice.
On a slightly different note, we realise this is a tough and uncertain time for all, but if you’re fortunate enough to not have your work affected by the measures being taken around the world, then please consider donating to Football Ramble Daily’s patreon. In the face of what’s happening, it’s a difficult advertising market out there and in order to keep going, we’re going to need all the help we can get. You can support us for as little as $1 a month.
From $5 there are loads of great benefits available, including:
- Access to our Ramble Discord server, which is a messaging service that gives you the opportunity to share in what we do all day every day, as well as give you an opportunity to chat with fellow Ramble listeners
- A weekly 'Ramble On' podcast episode featuring some behind-the-scenes audio and best bits of the week on Football Ramble Daily.*
- A fortnightly 'Spellertime' vlog from Marcus, giving you the little hairy boy's thoughts on everything from Sven to the magnificent Gorgie boys all the way back to Sven again!
From $10, you can make the most of all this, plus:
- A weekly audio episode of The Mailbag! Ask Marcus and two guests from On The Continent anything you like, and we'll release the new episode on our Patreron page and direct to your Podcast app*
- A lovely, monthly behind-the-scenes blog delivered directly from us to your inbox.
* - some podcast apps do not support this feature. Click here for more info.
Please consider donating if you can. We've been doing this since April 2007, but the mood in the advertising world is the worst we've ever seen it and if we are to keep this proud old institution going we might need to think outside the box!
Elsewhere at Stakhanov, the Revisiting girls delivered another brilliant episode. They talked about some of their childhood heroes, from Keira Knightley inspiring Laura Kirk to be a footballer for two weeks, to Laura Gallop performing Complicated by Avril Lavigne up and down the country. Plus, they reminisce about some iconic advertising campaigns, such as Christina Aguilera for Sketchers, Ronaldinho for Coca Cola and Britney Spears for Pepsi. Furthermore, Laura Kirk does her very best impression of Peter Kay smashing a football and shouting ‘Ave it’.
If Revisiting didn’t give you enough Laura Kirk for one week, she also guested on the Luke and Pete Show, telling Luke about the time she met Freddie Flintoff and turned a different colour and sharing her true thoughts on Mr Pete Donaldson. Also on the show, Laura reflected on her solo trip to the cinema and Luke admitted to his inability to complete a cryptic crossword.
On top of all that, we got to hear from some more listeners whose drunken shortcuts have gone awry, and one of you has been drinking beer out of a rifle…
Finally, over on JaackMaate’s Happy Hour, the lads were joined by top comedian, Seann Walsh. He opened up about how it felt to be faced with a huge media backlash after a mistake he made in the public eye, sharing how it impacted on his life and his work.
He also spoke about what it’s like to be a stand up comedian, what to expect when you first start comedy and the problem with people taking jokes out of context.
Also on this episode, there are discussions about comedy heroes, finding inspiration and whether there is such a thing as a perfect joke.
We really appreciate your support during these difficult times, hopefully some of these podcasts will keep you going. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any of our shows, and most importantly stay safe!
